Yoga Anatomy

Best yoga book ever! Yoga Anatomy by Leslie Kaminoff is seriously a work of art! All of the illustrations are based on real model photos. This baby is a textbook of sorts! It's very clearly and visually organized, in depth, and from a scientific/anatomical perspective - am I the only one excited?! Haha

These two particular postures are some of my all-time favorites. Uttanasana is great any time you can sneak it in, the bathroom, a broom closet - wherever! This is a pretty standard pose, it's used in just about every class I've been to, I believe. There's a reason, trust me. I tend to do this several times a day, but it feels especially lovely after just waking up or having been on your feet all day!

As for Kapotasana or Pigeon pose, that photo is totally stunning, but be in no hurry to get there my friends! If you haven't practiced much yoga before, you may want to start with this variation which is sometimes called "Lazy" Pigeon or Figure-4 stretch.  You should feel this on the outside hip/thigh area of whichever leg is open. Opening up and stretching the hips feels amazing - the folded forward variation is my favorite!
