DIY: Yoga Mat Spray

You'll need:

An essential oil of your choice
Vinegar or witch hazel
A spray bottle

So, this is an incredibly simple recipe obviously!  And before I tell you about it, let me say that there are many different opinions about "the best" way to clean a yoga mat.  Some people I talk to have mentioned methods like cutting half of a lemon and wiping it down with that, followed by a rinse with water, some suggest just water and sunshine, or dish soap -- the list goes on.  But this is what I like to use!  It's easy to customize, and cheap! Since I already had the vinegar, I just bought the spray bottle and oil, which together cost me about five dollars.  You may want to use witch hazel because of its more subtle scent, but I'm not terribly bothered by it so I went ahead and used the vinegar.  For this recipe I used about one and one third cup of water, two tablespoons of white vinegar, and 12-15 drops of essential oil.  Personally I used orange for its anti-septic quality and uplifting smell, but choose what you like!  As far as how often to clean your mat, some people like to do it after every practice, but (especially because I don't practice the hot, sweaty kind of yoga very often) I tend to clean mine about once a week.

So, yogis -- how do you clean your yoga mat?
